The Cintrage Side Table

is an intimate landscape,

contained within a curved circle.

a sunset over the Namib’s dunes,

218 end-grain leather strips

draw this shifting frontier

between the Namibian desert and the Atlantic.

The oak, burned and brushed,

reveals its veins and bears

a silent cartography,

like an ancient pedestal.

Inside an octagonal structure,

invisible and sheathed in leather.

 

Telluric, precious, quiet,

this table is a halt -

a domestic altar, a chest of memories.

It summons the souls of explorers

who dream of faraway places

from the heart of their living room.

It carries the smell of warm sand

and the briny scent of the ocean.
